As a cancer survivor, I became well acquainted with the physicians assistant who was involved in my care. I have always admired the Dragon tattoo on this P.A’s bulging right bicep which incidentally is approximately the size of my right thigh and one day asked his permission to photograph it for artistic purposes. He agreed whereupon I’ll take two iPhone photographs.
However, my photos confirmed that this Dragon tattoo was pictured in twine around the medical symbol of the caduceus. My goal was to use the tattoo as the basis for a Chinese dragon, therefore I had to remove the caduceus from my painting. This was one of the very few times in my artistic career that I have drawn an object before I painted. The result was the “Green Dragon” my version of a Chinese dragon.
I slightly enlarged the original drawing of the “Green Dragon” to produce the “Blue Dragon” which is shown amidst a slightly different bank of clouds. Chinese dragons are usually found chasing the ball of fire in the heavens, vying with the more immortal Phoenix for the fiery ball, or swimming amidst cascading ocean waves.
